blogs on living our best life for christ

It is always helpful to be encouraged and inspired to live the life we know Jesus wants us to live for Him. Living that life can be a real challenge sometimes. Here at New Song we want to contantly share insights and ideas on how to live for Christ no matter what's going on in the world. Blogs on the Faith is the place where we honestly and lovingly share what God expects of us and what it takes to live up to those expectations. We pray the words you read will empower you to be exactly what the Lord has designed you to be in a world that desperately needs Him.

New Wineskins

“Neither do people pour new wine into old wineskins. If they do, the skins will burst; the wine will run out and the wineskins will be ruined. No, they pour new wine into new wineskins, and both are preserved.” (Matthew 9:17)

These are words that Jesus spoke almost two thousand years ago. While the concept of storing our beverages in animal skins is extremely outdated and probably repugnant to most of us, the principle that our Savior was teaching has never been more relev

“I will deliver this people from the power of the grave;  I will redeem them from death. Where, O death, are your plagues?   Where, O grave, is your destruction?   (Hosea 3:14)

Did you ever wonder why they call Good Friday good? Even a thorough examination of the events of that day nearly two thousand years ago yields very little in the way of anything that can be called good. The day started with a mock trial before Pontus Pilate and ended with the Son of God lying alone

Holy Week

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son …

                                                                                    (John 3:16)

Holy Week is a wonderful time to contemplate, on an even deeper level than usual, our walk through this life. As I have gotten older, it has become increasingly obvious to me that the greatest thing that we can strive for in this life is obtaining a transformed heart – one that looks like Jesus’. When this occurs, al

True Victory

I recently had the opportunity to study what John calls the first of the signs through which (Jesus) revealed his glory, the changing of water into wine in Cana (Jn 2:1-11) with some very dear friends of mine. As I prepared for this study, I became obsessed with the fact that Jesus chose to use the six stone water jars that were used for ritual cleaning as the place to convert the water into wine. Obviously, there were empty wine jars available – they had been celebrating

Prayer – Entering into His Presence

In the book of Revelation, John described what he saw when he entered the throne room of Heaven. “The four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb. Each one had a harp and they were holding golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of God’s people.(Rev. 5:8) Later in his writing he described a similar scene: “Another angel, who had a golden censer, came and stood at the altar. He was given much incense to offer, with

Humility – The First Step in a Life of Prayer

by: Jack Harter

As followers of Christ, we all want to have a powerful, Spirit filled prayer life. We all want our prayers to draw us closer to our God and to propel Him into action on behalf of our petitions. We long for the kind of alone time with God that A.W. Tozer says “elevates and purifies every act of body and mind and integrates the entire personality into a single spiritual unit.” In other words, we want our whole life, word, thought, and action, to be a life of prayer. If you a

Under Pressure

Have you ever felt as though everything was weighing down you? Like everything in the world was your responsibility? Like if you didn’t rise to the occasion, no one would? That, my friend, is what we call pressure. It’s something that we all experience from time to time, but it’s often difficult to put into words. In fact, when I was trying to figure out how to write this piece on coping with pressure, it was difficult for me to put that feeling into words. Pressure. Looki

On Dealing with Stress

by: Jack Harter

Stress is a normal part of our world, whether we’re in a worldwide pandemic or not.  Some seasons are more heightened than others.  We can’t always control what’s thrown at us, but I strongly believe we can control our responses to it all.  I have some practical advice for what helps me with dealing with stress, but I can’t honestly talk about healthy rhythms without addressing the obvious:  abiding with Jesus.  I can offer things like picking up hobbies, limiting time on

The Authority of God

A few days ago, Pastor Jonathan Gray asked me to write a brief article concerning the “authority of God” in light of the current Corona virus pandemic and the fear and uncertainty that so many people feel. I’m happy to assure you that God is still in control and He can be trusted with us and everything we hold dear. The Apostle Paul wrote to believers in the challenging multi-cultural world of ancient Ephesus (and to us):

Ephesians 1:19-22 NLT I also pray that you will unde

How to see daily blessings throughout the crisis

I looked at my journal as the ink dried on the page.  It was true; I couldn’t know what God was going to do in my future, I only had control over my choices at that moment.

I was sitting in the parking lot of an accounting firm in Annapolis, MD, where I was working following a failed church start-up and unsure whether God would ever open the door to full-time ministry again.  Though working at the firm, I was not a trained accountant and was daily grasping for how to lear

Never Stop Evangelizing

The current pandemic, COVID-19, is causing us to face many uncertainties.  We don’t understand everything that is going on right now, but we do understand one thing—JESUS WILL NEVER FAIL US.  Teen Challenge, our life is not our own. We have been bought with a price (I Corinthians 6:20,”For ye are bought with a price….”). We have been bought with the price of Jesus Christ’s own precious blood (Hebrews 9:12, “Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he
